In COVID-19 infection, a balance must be achieved between the immune defense against the virus and prevention of a so called cytokine storm, which in some cases can result in lung damage and respiratory distress.
Hargreaves and Mantle at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Liverpool John Moores, and PharmaNord LTD stated that the consequences of oxidative stress and inflammation during viral infection may be influenced by two specific nutrients, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and selenium. The scientists came to the conclusion that both CoQ10 and selenium are promising for the treatment of COVID-19 infected patients.
