A scientific study was conducted by Ramenapp and colleagues to investigate the effects of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) root and leaf extract supplement on cortisol levels, self-reported mood, stress, food cravings, and anxiety in individuals who are under perceived stress over a 30 days period. Saliva cortisol levels, cognitive function, and the self-reported measures of Trait Anxiety Inventory, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, and Food cravings were all measured at Day 0, Day 15, and Day 30. Significant effects were demonstrated for anxiety, depression, perceived stress, and food cravings. No negative effects of ashwagandha supplementation were not reported. The results from the comprehensive study showed that using ashwagandha supplements may lessen the physical, mental, and emotional impacts of stress.
